Hi Everyone,
On this day 328 years ago, one of my favourite composers-Johann Sebastian Bach-was born. He was gifted, talented and very prolific composing over 1,100 works-as well as fathering 20 children!
His music is enjoyed all over the world by many types of people today. Although he was never rich during his lifetime, he has made us rich in music and culture.
I hope you’ll enjoy my version of the Prelude to Cello Suite Number 1.

Hi Everyone,
It’s that time of the year when many of you will be taking a break from regular lessons. However, I still want you to keep up a fairly regular practice regime. OK it is actually good to have a break for a little while and have some “time off” fun so you come into the new year refreshed.
But think about setting up your practice session now.
Relaxed practice over the holiday break
A great idea is to set up a practice session regime for the year ahead and try to stick to it. It must encompass all elements, so look at dividing it into segments. I like to use this timing.
25% warm up with scales, arpeggios, drills and set exercises.
50% music piece/song practice.
25% free play, just have fun playing what you like, or writing you own music or checking out a YouTube guitar site.
If you are thinking of doing exams this year (JUNE) you need to get into the practice groove now, which will make covering the material for the exam a breeze.

Hi Everyone,
The results for the Theory of Music exams in 2012 are finalised and there was a fantastic result from students at the Glenelg Guitar Studio. It’s really great to see so many students, aged from 10-80, decide to undertake the exams.
Everyone has their own reason for following a more formal path of learning, however I see that it improves their playing and pleasure by increasing confidence. Confidence means a greater understanding of the music and what they can achieve as well as broadening the range, styles and types of music they can play.
